En pratique, la situation est bien différente et beaucoup de femmes se retrouvent sans rémunération[1] [2] [3]. Le pays ne compte que 201 sages-femmes pour 10 millions d’habitants. Les sages-femmes des ONG présentes en Haïti tentent de combler ce manque et apportent une aide cruciale pour améliorer le taux de survie des mères et des enfants. En effet, la mortalité maternelle était estimée à 350 décès pour 100 000 naissances vivantes en 2012[4].
