Moderators are immensely important to Gynopedia -- and, without moderation, Gynopedia could not exist. As you may know, Gynopedia is a free wiki. We receive contributions from everyday people, many of whom have wonderful information to include. However, some of this information may be awkwardly phrased, outdated, not properly cited, or not fully accurate. That’s where moderators come in. Other times, we receive contributions from spammers, bots, or other nuisances. That’s also where moderators come in. Moderation is the crucial heart of this site.

Below, we'll share some information on moderation -- and, if you're interested in becoming a moderator, shoot us an email (gynopediawiki@gmail.com), and we’ll talk about how you can potentially get involved.

==Moderation FAQ==

'''Who are Gynopedia moderators? What are the requirements or qualifications?'''
'''Who are Gynopedia moderators? What are the requirements or qualifications?'''

Gynopedia moderators are people who help moderate, edit, and improve the website. There are no formal professional or educational requirements; anyone can be a moderator. However, the most important qualities are discretion and careful judgment. As a moderator, you’ll be making decisions about the content and its validity. You’ll also help edit and improve existing content. For this reason, it’s important that moderators aren’t just anonymous people lurking in the shadows of the website. They need to feel comfortable questioning things, engaging in discussion, and sharing ideas with others. They should also wholeheartedly believe in inclusiveness -- this is a website for all sexes, genders, sexual orientations, and nationalities -- and moderators should respect the diversity of the users.

First, you’ll need to create an account with Gynopedia. Once you have created an account, you’ll have a basic account of a contributor. In order to be upgraded to a moderator/administrator, you’ll need to contact us via Facebook, Twitter, or email (gynopediawiki@gmail.com), and request to become a moderator.

Now, as a moderator, you have A LOT more privileges than a basic contributor. This means that there’s a great deal of trust involved, so you'll need to first go through a basic screening process before we grant you moderator privileges. As an FYI, this is just to be on the safe side, since Gynopedia deals with some sensitive subject matter. We definitely won’t interrogate you -- just ask a few questions to confirm that you’re genuinely interested in moderation (rather than spamming, trolling or wreaking havoc on the website), ask you to be transparent about why you're interested in the project and what you hope to get out of it, and confirm that you're a collaborative problem-solver.
