The city of New York has made a genuine effort to provide low-cost counseling | The city of New York has made a genuine effort to provide low-cost counseling services, including hotlines and support groups. Some support groups are managed by large public hospitals, such as Bellevue Hospital or Harlem Hospital, but there are many smaller, non-profit organizations/clinics. Many of the hospitals are affiliated with universities, and you can find deeply compassionate physicians, social workers and therapists throughout the city. Of course this is not to say that everyone has a great experience. There are horror stories, as there are everywhere, and public hospitals can sometimes feel overwhelmed and understaffed.
