However, there are some restrictions. The abortion must be performed in the first trimester of pregnancy by a licensed physician in a hospital, authorized clinic or other health care establishment.[1] Furthermore, according to a 2014 article published by Tunisia Live, there have been cases of young women and girls being discouraged from obtaining abortions at some hospitals. In some cases, medical personnel have even denied access to abortion services, citing the medical conscience clause (which allows doctors to refuse services that go against their personal beliefs). Counseling phone lines have also received calls from women who were denied abortion services.[2] It should be stressed that these cases are not incredibly common, but it's useful for people to know that this does exist in Tunisia.
